D.K.D.College, Dergaon established in the 2013-2014 financial year. It has
started its activities from September 2014. In the month of July 2015 it has
been able to identify a Bacterial strain inhabited in Tetrodon cutcutia(Ham.)
which is registered by NCBI as Aeromonas spp. DKDC-1.

The Major Research Project entitled “Extraction of Tetrodotoxin from
Tetrodon cutcutia (Puffer fish) and its use as a biopesticide” going on in
the Zoology department of D.K.D.College, Dergaon has been able to identify
the toxin present in the fresh water Tetrodon cutcutia as Saxitoxin . The
Principal Investigator of the project is Dr. T.G.Devina, Co-Investigator Sri
Jugal Kr. Nath and Project fellow Tikendrajit Gogoi.The team also able to
find three Bacteria inhabited in the intestine of Tetrodon.The toxin has
positive effect on Aphids, cockroaches and pest of Chrysanthemum by which it
can be used as Bio-pesticide.
